We never tire of finding new mixed media artists, especially those whose style falls somewhere between fashion illustration, painting, and comics. Sandra Chevrier’s mixed media on paper works are just that, heroines displaying a delightful hybrid of strength and softness. Brushstrokes of paint in varying densities create dynamism that’s pure dynamite. Chevrier’s mixed media portraits are compelling and deceptively simple in their composition. Placed in a fresh context, tearful faces and superhero insignias take on a new visual significance. Each piece seems to carry its own meaning, some reflecting powerful emotions or symbols of strength, while others seem simply to depict wild-haired women immersed in their own pop cultural fantasies.
