k.O.M.A Project – Mild Manners

Mild Manners is undertaking a temporary residency throughout 2013, in a small space on James St. This six part gallery project begins with an opening group exhibition including; Andrew Gordon, Ben Havenarr, Hamishi, James Ettelson, Jedda-Daisy, Culley, Mark Alsweiler and Mike Bennett.

This also launches a new publication, put together by Small House Books. It features images and words covering the five solo exhibitions set to take place throughout the rest of the year. Written contributors include Sebastian Moody, Max Olijnyk, Mariam Arcilla, Sarah Werkmeister and Tess Maunder.

Mild Manners is an innovative gallery project working with a diverse group of artists ranging from self taught to institutional backgrounds. The gallery is of no fixed address, or set exhibition schedule, instead hosting a range of short term exhibitions in unique spaces. Aiming to challenge audiences not only on the art, but also where it is seen.

It’s founder, Matt Rabbidge is an independent curator and producer. In 2008 he co-founded Nine Lives Gallery, in its four years of operation, the space hosted over 70 exhibitions across the east coast Australia including Anthony Lister, Jonathon Zawada, Alex Kopps, French, Beastman and Joseph Allen Shea. In this time, the gallery worked closely with global brands like Semi-permanent, Vice and Curvy, as well as residencies at Splendour in the Grass and Laneway Festivals.

Nine Lives closed its doors in early 2012 and, after a short break, Rabbidge launched his new project, Mild Manners. Alongside these temporary exhibitions, this project will continue to work on creative partnerships between art makers and open minded brands.
