The U.S. Supreme Court is poised to take up the issue of gay marriage in California this morning. The moment has prompted nervous debate within the gay-rights movement about the best path to achieve gay marriage.
If the justices choose not to hear theProposition 8 case, then a federal appeals court ruling that found the 2008 state ballot measure banning same-sex marriage unconstitutional would stand, clearing the way for marriages to begin. If the justices take up the case, a ruling would not come until next year and gay marriage would remain on hold until then, or longer depending on how the court rules.
Opponents of gay marriage, however, are eager for the Supreme Court to weigh in and are hoping it will block the growing legalization of same-sex unions.
Some very clever LGBT filmmakers have come up with a hilarious ultimatum… legalize gay marriage or we will marry your girlfriends and boyfriends.
The first video made by College Humor depicts several gay men challenging straight men to change their views on gay marriage or they will marry their girlfriends. They make some very compelling arguments as to why they would make the perfect husbands. For instance, they challenge, “You don’t want to go dancing? We do. We teach a dance class. Urban Tango.” And, “We could listen to your girlfriend for hours just reassuring her that she’s not the crazy one.”
